Republishing Guidelines
Last modified: August 24, 2026
License
All content published by Muckraker Foundation, including written articles, video footage, and photographs, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license, with the additional permissions and conditions described on this page.
Muckraker Foundation retains full copyright in all content. This license grants qualifying publishers the right to republish our work at no cost. It is not a transfer of ownership, an assignment of rights, or a dedication to the public domain.
Violations of the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license or of the additional terms on this page are legally enforceable. Muckraker Foundation reserves the right to revoke this license from any publisher that fails to comply.
Who May Republish
These terms are extended to legitimate news organizations, including newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets, digital-native publications, and nonprofit newsrooms. Personal blogs, social-media reposts, and aggregation sites that do not employ editorial staff are not covered by this license. If you are unsure whether your outlet qualifies, please contact us before republishing.
What Is Covered
Unlike many syndication licenses that apply only to text, this license covers all content types published by Muckraker Foundation: written articles, video footage, and photography. Republishers may embed or host video and display photographs, provided all attribution requirements below are met.
Attribution Requirements
All republished content must carry the following attribution:
- Display the Muckraker Foundation logo at the top of any page that contains republished content. Use one of the versions shown below; both are included in the downloadable media kit.
- Use “Muckraker Foundation” as the byline or source indicator. Where your CMS uses dateline format, the dateline should include “Muckraker Foundation” as the originating organization.
- Credit the reporter by name as it appears on the original article.
- Include a direct hyperlink to the original article on muckraker.org.
- Add a canonical link element (<link rel=“canonical” href=“…”>) in the page’s <head> pointing to the muckraker.org version.
Video and Photography
Video and photographs are covered by this license on the same terms as written content. Video must not be re-edited in a way that alters the meaning of the reporting or removes embedded attribution such as lower-third graphics, watermarks, or title cards. Photographs must be used in their original form without cropping that removes attribution overlays.
If you need broadcast-quality source files or have questions about specific footage, contact us at the address below.
Permitted Modifications
Although the CC BY-NC-ND license generally prohibits derivative works, Muckraker Foundation grants republishers the following additional permissions for written content only:
- Adjustments to grammar, punctuation, and house style.
- Shortening for length, provided no factual assertions are removed.
- Rewriting headlines, provided they remain faithful to the substance of the article.
These permissions do not extend to changes that materially alter the meaning or context of the reporting, omit quoted sources, or modify attribution in any way. Video and photography may not be modified beyond what is described in the section above.
Contributed Content
Some investigations published on this site were produced by outside organizations and contributed to Muckraker Foundation for public release. These articles carry a production credit identifying the originating entity. They are available for republication under the same license and terms described here. Republishers must preserve the production credit exactly as it appears on the original article.
Disclaimer of Warranties
All content is provided on an “as is” basis. Muckraker Foundation makes no representations or warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, regarding the content, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, non-infringement of intellectual property, freedom from defamation claims, or fitness for any particular purpose. Republishers assume full responsibility for their use of the content and any legal exposure that may result.
